Throughout the month the kolam becomes bigger and bigger and the pillaiyar count too will increase from 1 to 3 in the 2nd day, to 5 in the 3rd and will end up with 59 pillaiyars at the end of margazhi... After this the Thai month begins. By the 1st of Thai is known as Thai pongal, Maattu pongal being the 2nd and PooPpongal / "kanni" / Kaanum pongal being the 3rd day... By Thai pongal ie the 1st day, the rice to make pongal, sugarcane, banana will be coming from maternal uncle...
